After the First World War in 1918, Montenegro became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Since the collapse of Yugoslavia (April 27, 1992), it has existed as part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which on February 4, 2003 became the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. On May 21, 2006, a referendum on the independence of Montenegro was held. After the referendum on the independence of Montenegro, 55.5% of voters voted for the republic’s withdrawal from the union. So on June 3, 2006, Montenegro gained independence.

Agriculture
The main agricultural crops in Montenegro are potatoes, cereals, citrus fruits, olives, grapes, tobacco and figs.
During Yugoslav times, Montenegro was an underdeveloped, subsidized republic. Basically, the country’s economy was shaken by the wars of the early 1090s, where Montenegro supported Serbia. The later isolation of “small” Yugoslavia also played a big role. But despite all the difficulties, Montenegro was able to find itself in the international arena by the beginning of the 2000s. Thanks to the development of summer and winter tourism. Since then, the country has experienced economic growth. In 2014, Montenegro’s income from tourism was as much as 20% of GDP.

Tourism
In Montenegro, the cities of Budva, Petrovac, Herceg Novi, Becici are especially popular. Tourists especially love the city of Kotor on the shores of the Bay of Kotor, Skadar Lake, Mount Lovcen, the former capital of Cetinje, the high-mountain Ostrog Monastery, the Durmitor National Park, the Tara River Canyon (the second largest in the world), and the ski resort of Zabljak are also popular. The state aims its policy at the comprehensive development of the tourism sector in the country. After all, tourism is the main source of income. The popularity of this amazing country among tourists is growing every day. It is not for nothing that Montenegro was called an “environmentally friendly state”. At least people no longer ask “What country is Montenegro in?”, but not everyone has a good answer to the question about the capital.
